Guest Lecture on HIV/AIDS
01 Mar 2021
On March 01, 2021, a guest lecture on HIV/AIDS was organized by Ms. Anju Bala (Centre Coordinator) together with her team at the Don Bosco Tech Society, Jalandhar center. Dr. Jaskirat Singh (Medical Social Worker, Nurmahal Govt. Hospital) was the resource person for the day.
Dr. Singh visited the center on request who took the session on HIV/AIDS. He made the trainees aware of the ways a person can get infected by HIV. He gave a long speech on how one can take precautions from HIV, AIDS, and STDs. He said, “Around the world, the young people are at the center of the HIV epidemic where almost half of all HIV-infected people are aged from 15 −24 years.” He also stated that Southeast Asia and the Pacific region have the second-highest rate of prevalence of HIV with an estimated 1.30 million young people living with HIV. As per Dr. Singh, many factors increase the vulnerability of young people getting infected with HIV. One such example is the lack of awareness. During the talk, he said that while many channels exist through which information is reached-out to young people, interventions through education have been initiated throughout the world to reach a larger number of young people easily.
All trainers and trainees present there felt it very meaningful. In the end, everyone pledged that they will create awareness among the people of their surroundings. The session ended with thanksgiving.
