24 Jan 2023
Don Bosco Tech, Thakurmunda organized a guest lecturer session for the trainees of organic grower job role under Accenture – 12 on January 24, 2023. Ms. Mukta Mohanta VLW of Panchayatraj & Drinking Water Department of Odisha was invited as the guest lecture.
The guest lecture session began with introduction by the domain trainer Mr. Abhimanyu Behera and he heartily welcomed Ms. Mukta Mohanta to deliver the lecture.
She described organic farming, agricultural system that uses ecologically based pest controls and biological fertilizers derived largely from animal and plant wastes and nitrogen-fixing cover crops. Modern organic farming was developed as a response to the environmental harm caused by the use of chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers in conventional agriculture, and it has numerous ecological benefits.
She explained environmental benefits by adoption of organic way of cultivation and her approach of organic farming includes crop rotation, green manures and compost and biological pest control. The economics of organic farming is characterized by increasing profits via reduced water use, lower expenditure on fertilizer and energy, and increased retention of topsoil. To add to this the increased demand for organic produce makes organic farming a profitable option for farmers. The use of green pesticides such as neem, compost tea, and spinosad is environment friendly and non-toxic. These pesticides help in identifying and subsequently, increasing crop defense systems she said.
At last, she has advised to trainees to adopt the process of organic way of production rather than the modern crop farming which in result deteriorates the soil and the human health. She also suggested trainees to take seriously and make it as carrier. Finally Mr. Diganta Pattnaik (Support Domain Trainer) thanked to Ms. Mohanta for sharing her knowledge and taking the time out to educate the trainees.
