On February 8, 2024, Don Bosco Tech Thakurmunda orchestrated an enlightening exposure visit to Sai Sankar Farm, Boring Mayurbhanj, aimed at providing practical insight into organic farming methodologies. Led by Mr. Abhimanyu Behera, the Domain Trainer, and Jagadish Prasad Swain, the Centre Coordinator, along with our enthusiastic Organic Grower Trainees, this visit was an enriching opportunity for all involved.
Upon arrival, the warm reception by Proprietor Mr. Jagabandhu Naik set the tone for a day filled with learning and inspiration. Mr. Naik, recognizing the trainees' passion for organic farming, generously prioritized their visit, fostering an environment of encouragement and support.
The excursion proved to be a catalyst for our trainees, igniting their enthusiasm and bolstering their confidence in pursuing organic farming practices. Witnessing firsthand the implementation of sustainable techniques such as crop rotation, composting, and natural pest control methods left an indelible impression on them.
Throughout the visit, trainees delved into crucial aspects of organic farming, including soil health management, fertility enhancement, and the integration of livestock for sustainable farming systems. Insights into certification processes and market demand for organic produce provided valuable perspectives on the broader scope of organic agriculture.
Exploring experimental plots and various units like vermicomposting facilities and storage structures further augmented their understanding of organic farming technologies. Mr. Naik's expertise and guidance offered a comprehensive overview of these techniques and their advantages, reinforcing the trainees' commitment to organic cultivation.
Engaging discussions with Mr. Naik illuminated the suitability of Mayurbhanj district's climate and soil for organic farming, inspiring trainees to consider transitioning their own fields towards organic practices, even if initially for personal consumption.
The visit concluded on a note of gratitude, with Abhimanyu Behera extending heartfelt thanks to Mr. Jagabandhu Naik for his invaluable insights and to all participants for their active involvement. This transformative experience at Sai Sankar Farm not only equipped our trainees with practical knowledge but also sparked a newfound passion for sustainable agriculture, setting them on a path towards meaningful contribution and growth in the field of organic farming.
