Guest Lecture of Batch - 7 Mushroom Grower Job Role Skills to Succeed 24-25

On February 8, 2025 Don Bosco Tech Thakurmunda organized its first guest lecture for the Mushroom Grower job role Batch -7 under the 'Skills to Succeed 2024-25' program at the Thakurmunda center. This milestone event was graced by Mr. Jogendra Sahu Field Officer of Horticulture Department Govt. of Odisha was invited as the guest lecturer. Who captivated the audience with his profound insights into mushroom cultivation.
The lecture began with a warm welcome address by the Centre Coordinator Mr. Jagadish Prasad Swain who introduced Mr. Jogendra Sahu. The anticipation was clear as Mr. Sahu took the stage, ready to share his extensive knowledge on the subject.
Mr. Sahu’s presentation delved into the fascinating world of mushroom cultivation in India. He began by outlining the definition of Mushroom cultivation is the process of growing mushrooms in a controlled environment, using a combination of substrate, nutrients, and environmental control. Mushroom cultivation utilizes organic waste materials like straw, compost, and wood chips, reducing waste disposal issues. Mushroom cultivation is the deliberate and controlled growth of mushrooms, typically for food, using a variety of techniques, including: Substrate preparation: Creating a suitable growing medium, such as compost or wood chip. Spawn production: Generating mushroom spawn, which is the material used to inoculate the substrate. Inoculation: Introducing the mushroom spawn into the substrate.
One of the most intriguing parts of Mr. Sahu’s lecture was his discussion on the profitability of mushroom farming in India. He illustrated how this industry has turned hard labour into lucrative profits, revolutionizing the lives of many farmers. He further elaborated on the benefits of mushroom production, such as converting agro-waste into valuable products like organic manure and nutritious food, thereby significantly reducing environmental pollution.
The lecture took an engaging turn with an interactive FAQ session where trainees posed various questions to Mr. Sahu. His comprehensive answers provided deeper insights, leaving the trainees more informed and inspired.
The session concluded with Mr. Jagadish Prasad Swain, Domain Trainer, extending heartfelt thanks to Mr. Sahu for his invaluable contribution and for enlightening the trainees with his expertise.
