Don Bosco Tech Thakurmunda arranged an exposure visit to Sri Laxmi Mushroom Farm Akhapalan, Mayurbhanj for the betterment in professional ethics of trainees. Visit was accompanied by Mr. Jagadish Prasad Swain (Domain Trainer) along with all Mushroom Grower (Batch – 1, of Accenture 2023-24) trainees on June 6, 2023, which helped them to dream their growth and progress in the chosen job role. The students arrived at the farm, where they were greeted by Proprietor Mr. Guru Charan Jena of Sri Laxmi Mushroom Farm.

Mr. Jena explained bed preparation and cropping of paddy straw mushroom. Demonstration of oyster mushroom cultivation and briefing on all the ingredients required to cultivation were shared by the proprietor Mr. Guru Charan Jena. Trainees learned to grow paddy straw mushroom and oyster mushroom that can provide them additional income. The participants were made aware of the nutritional value and market demand for mushrooms.

He said mushroom cultivation along with spawn production is a profitable business but it requires practical knowledge and technical skills. Mushroom production is simple, low cost, and suitable for rural areas, is labour intensive and can provide employment in both the rural areas and semi-urban. Trainees expressed interest in adopting mushroom cultivation as an additional income source. They requested for the spawn to be supplied to their villages at affordable price.

The purpose of this visit is to provide exposure for the students on practical mushroom fields. Through this exposure, students will have better understanding of Mushroom farming practice in general and sense of frequent and possible problems. This visit is part of the learning process and helped in fulfilling the academic requirement, to bridge the gap between class room teaching and industry requirements and to get farming exposure and professional experience.

At the end Mr. Jagadish (Trainer) and trainees of DB Tech extend their gratitude to Sri Laxmi Mushroom Farm for his kind cooperation and support he rendered to make the visit a successful with accomplishment of objective. Trainees were very happy and were thankful to Don Bosco Tech for organizing the field trip.
