On September 27, 2023, Don Bosco Tech, Thakurmunda, hosted a transformative guest lecture tailored for the Organic Grower job role within Accenture’s Batch – 4 trainees. The session welcomed Mrs. Namita Rout, Field Officer of the Odisha Forestry Sector Development (OFSD), as the esteemed guest speaker.
Kicking off the event, domain trainer Mr. Abhimanyu Behera extended a warm welcome to Mrs. Rout, setting the stage for an enlightening discourse on organic farming.
Mrs. Rout commenced the session by emphasizing the paramount significance of organic farming in today's context. Engaging with the trainees, she shed light on the detrimental effects of modern-day chemical-based farming practices on both soil health and the environment. Mrs. Rout delved into various aspects, emphasizing soil management techniques, entrepreneurial opportunities, and the benefits of organic manure and fertilizers, notably highlighting the advantages of vermicomposting.
An integral aspect she highlighted was the role of animal husbandry in organic farming. Stressing its importance, she discussed the utilization of Farm Yard Manure and Poultry Yard Manure to enrich soil health and generate additional income through the sale of dairy products. Mrs. Rout also shared insights into natural techniques such as herbal sprays, jeewamrit, and vermi-composting, advocating for natural methods in nutrient management and pest control.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A session, during which Mrs. Rout addressed queries and emphasized the adoption of organic production processes over conventional farming methods that degrade soil quality and human health.
