Don Bosco Tech, Thakurmunda organized a guest lecturer session for Organic Grower job role Batch – 2 of Accenture – 2023-24 on May 31, 2023. Mr. Prem Narayan Dash Field Officer of Odisha Forestry Sector Development Society (OFSDS) was invited as the guest lecture.

The guest lecture began with introduced by the domain trainer Mr. Abhimanyu Behera and he heartily welcomed Mr. Prem Narayan Dash to deliver the lecture.

Prem Narayan Dash interacted with trainees about careless activities of the farmers in the field. He mentioned that currently production is more than the requirement to fulfill the food requirement of the population but by excessive use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides the quality of food grains and soil has degraded. He advised trainees to adopt organic farming techniques like vermi-composting, jeewamrit and herbal spray to enhance quality of their products.

He also explained to the trainees about important farming practices in organic farming. He informed trainees about deep summer plugging, use of bio fertilisers, pheromone traps, light traps etc. He said that use of these techniques will reduce the cost of cultivation and increase benefit in agriculture. He indicated that by using organic farming expenditure on health of family members can be reduced as organic products contain lesser chemicals with no side effects. In between the session a movie related to organic farming was shown to all the participants. Movie was on the hazardous effects of chemical farming and benefits of organic farming. He recommended students to adopt natural techniques for Nutrient management, pest and disease control methods.

At last, there was a question answer session and he explained and answers all queries. He has advised to trainees to adopt the process of organic way of production; Organic farming is successful only if you sell direct to customer. It looks very hard at first but growth is very exponential. Finally Mr. Diganta Pattanaik (Support Domain Trainer) thanked to Mr. Dash for sharing his knowledge and taking the time out to educate the trainees.
