The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Ms. Shiny S, IT Customer Care Executive Trainer, who introduced the guest speaker and highlighted the importance of understanding workplace expectations, employability skills, and interview readiness for aspiring customer care professionals.
The resource person for the session was Mr. Balagopal B S, HR Executive, Aura Bloom Solutions, Trivandrum. During the session, he shared valuable insights regarding the professional expectations of BPO and IT support companies and the qualities recruiters seek in candidates.
The speaker emphasized that an interview begins even before the first question is asked and explained the importance of first impressions, professional appearance, positive attitude, communication skills, and body language. He stressed that recruiters often value attitude, willingness to learn, and professionalism alongside technical skills.
Mr. Balagopal discussed workplace expectations such as punctuality, discipline, teamwork, adaptability, customer-centric thinking, active listening, and effective communication. He explained that good communication is not merely speaking English fluently but communicating clearly, listening carefully, and responding confidently.
The session also covered interview preparation techniques, including how to introduce oneself effectively, answer common interview questions, and demonstrate confidence during interviews. Students learned how to answer questions such as “Tell me about yourself,” “Why should we hire you?”, “Why do you want to join BPO?”, and questions related to strengths and weaknesses.
The importance of positive body language and professional etiquette was also discussed. The speaker advised students to maintain eye contact, sit confidently, listen attentively, and avoid common mistakes such as arriving late, poor grooming, negative attitudes, one-word answers, and insufficient company research.
In addition, the guest provided guidance on resume preparation and explained the importance of presenting educational qualifications, skills, experiences, and career objectives in a professional manner. The students were introduced to the basic structure of a resume and the significance of maintaining honesty and accuracy in resume preparation.
An interactive session was conducted towards the end, where students actively participated by asking questions related to interviews, workplace culture, career opportunities, and customer service roles. The interaction helped the trainees gain confidence and better understand industry expectations.
The student representative, Ms. Fathima S, shared her feedback on behalf of the trainees and expressed appreciation for the valuable guidance provided during the session. She mentioned that the session enhanced the students' confidence and provided practical insights into interviews and workplace readiness.
The session concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Tinu Ruben, Center Coordinator, Don Bosco Tech, Kollam, who appreciated the resource person for conducting an informative and inspiring session and encouraged the trainees to utilize the knowledge gained to enhance their employability and professional growth.
