To mark World Youth Skills Day 2026, Don Bosco Tech Sambalpur Centre organized an engaging classroom activity titled "Mental Health Tree of Hope" as part of its Mental Health Awareness Initiative to promote positive thinking, emotional well-being, and healthy coping strategies among trainees on 10th July 2026.

The session began with an interactive discussion led by the trainer on the importance of mental health and how maintaining a positive mindset contributes to overall well-being. Trainees were encouraged to understand that mental health is just as important as physical health and that seeking support is a sign of strength.

A large "Mental Health Tree of Hope" was prepared and displayed in the classroom, where trainees were invited to reflect on positive habits that support their mental well-being. Each trainee received a colourful leaf-shaped cut-out and wrote a personal commitment related to mental health before attaching it to the tree.

The colourful leaves displayed meaningful commitments such as "I will ask for help when needed," "I will exercise regularly," "I will talk to somebody," "I will support my family," "I will manage my stress calmly," "I will speak my feelings to others if I feel alone," "I will stay positive always," "I will take care of myself," and "I will never hurt anyone." These personal commitments reflected the trainees' understanding of self-care, emotional expression, family support, healthy habits, and positive behaviour.

As each trainee came forward to place their leaf on the tree, they shared their commitment with the group, creating an atmosphere of encouragement, openness, and mutual support. The completed Mental Health Tree of Hope became a powerful symbol of collective responsibility towards maintaining good mental health and supporting one another.

The session concluded with a Mental Health Pledge, where all participants pledged to take care of their mental well-being, speak positively, manage stress in healthy ways, support family and friends, seek help whenever needed, and contribute to creating a caring and supportive environment for everyone.

The activity successfully combined the spirit of World Youth Skills Day with the importance of mental well-being, reinforcing that emotional resilience, self-awareness, and positive relationships are essential life skills that empower young people to thrive both personally and professionally.
