Report on Guest Lecture
On December 6, 2024, Don Bosco Tech, Chandigarh, organized an insightful guest lecture on Goods and Services Tax (GST) for E-Commerce Executive students. The session was led by Mr. Manoj Sharma from ITC and was attended by approximately 22 students, along with faculty member and trainer Ms. Simran, who facilitated the event.
The objective of the lecture was to deepen students' understanding of India’s taxation system, particularly the structure and significance of GST, as part of their vocational training. Mr. Sharma began by explaining the concept and purpose of GST, highlighting its role in unifying the country’s tax structure under the slogan “One Nation, One Tax.” He elaborated on the transition from the earlier multi-tax system to GST, explaining the dual structure comprising Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST). He also covered Integrated GST (IGST) for inter-state commerce and Union Territory GST (UTGST) for Union Territories. In addition, Mr. Sharma demonstrated the procedures for GST registration and return filing. The lecture included real-life examples to illustrate GST’s impact on small businesses and startups, making the session practical and relatable. Students actively engaged by asking questions regarding GST rates, exemptions, and compliance procedures. Mr. Sharma addressed their queries, dispelled common misconceptions, and encouraged students to understand GST's relevance in the E-Commerce domain. Participants appreciated Mr. Sharma’s ability to break down complex tax concepts into easily understandable information. The interactive nature of the session and its relevance to the students’ curriculum received positive feedback. Many attendees expressed a keen interest in participating in more sessions focused on financial literacy.
The lecture concluded with a strong message about the importance of grasping GST as an essential part of India’s financial and economic framework, encouraging students to apply this knowledge in both academic and professional settings.
